Preparing PhDS for Post-Academic Careers

This is a five unit, self-paced course, designed specifically for graduate students and PhDs interested in careers beyond the professoriate. In addition to online videos and worksheets, you and I will work together in one-to-one coaching session to identify career options that are right for you, and to create actionable steps to help you find job opportunities.

Option 1: Bootcamp Basic + 3 Month Community Membership to Beyond the Professoriate:

  • Access to all videos, worksheets and handouts, for 90 days.
  • Four 30 min one-to-one coaching sessions
  • Additional sessions can be added for $75/half hour call.


Option 2: Bootcamp Advanced + 3 Month Community Membership to Beyond the Professoriate

  • Access to all videos, worksheets and handouts, for 90 days.
  • Ten 30 min one-to-one coaching sessions
  • Additional sessions can be added for $75/half hour call.
  • Any sessions unused during Bootcamp can be used for up to 6 months after date of enrolment

Once you've completed bootcamp, you can continue to work with me in one-to-one coaching sessions billed at $80 per half hour.

Maren Wood

Maren Wood, PhD, is also a Certified Career Coach. She is the co-founder of Beyond the Professoriate, an online community for PhDs in Career Transition. Maren speaks on university campuses across North America where she talks about the state of the academic job market (providing hard numbers) and tips and strategies to PhDs interested in careers beyond the professoriate. She has been the lead researcher on several important studies on the academic and non-academic job market, including The Many Careers of History PhDs for the American Historical Association, and JobTracker for Chronicle of Higher Education/Vitae. Her current project is a history of the Academic Job Market Crisis from 1968- Present. Maren earned a PhD in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and knows first-hand the challenges of being an adjunct, having worked as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of History at UNC Chapel Hill teaching courses in American History and the History of Sexuality.
